TNR Happenings October 29, 2018

Miyagi starts at 7:30 p.m. on Friday
Warm, comfortable, and flexible clothing is the order of the day for the Friday night experience. This portion of the Miyagi seminar will have a ghoulish mixture of physical, emotional, and spiritual cleansing not found elsewhere. Those of you who are used to going to bed at 9:00 are in for a rude awakening. Make sure you are rested before the event. Yes, we have a mystery guest for both Friday night’s activities and a few hours on Saturday. Participants will have their worlds rocked!
Your mindset and clinical chops will never be the same. If you're itching to see a glimpse of your true potential as a humanitarian DC then make sure you're at Miyagi so you can see your future.

LHNC Gift-raising is in full swing!
Everyone is putting their own spin on the tried and true ways of getting your whole community involved, like football betting pools and World Series betting pools. Use your imagination to involve groups that are outside your office, like online groups, businesses, and religious groups. The more people that you get involved, the more kids we can help. Love Has No Color was founded by Chiropractors, is funded by Chiropractors, and is run by Chiropractors. It invites people from all walks of life to voluntarily be a part of something that helps these kids rediscover their hope, health, and dignity.
On Friday, a member admitted to me that they once again got a late start with Christmas on the Reservation. For whatever reason, this member has been slow to embrace Love Has No Color in her office. It just hasn’t occurred to her that having Christmas on the Reservation leads to a win-win for both the practice members and the doctor. Many members report personal bests in new patients, income, referrals, etc. during the COTR drive. She doesn't have a LHNC wall and hasn't been on any of the trips to the Reservation for our Boot Camp/Fun Days or Christmas on the Reservation.
I suggested that she take the pressure off herself and simply write a check if she so chooses. Her jaw almost hit the floor as she asked, “Can I do that?" It’s not that she doesn’t believe in Love Has No Color or want to help the kids, her life is a tad bit out of balance and she is doing the best she can. Now she can still help the kids while she gets back on her feet.
Observations from Miyagi

Most rock n roll bands usually start out playing music that audiences have heard before (cover music) that creates emotions from feeling good to feeling invincible, romantic, sad, etc. If a time comes when the band decides to start playing its original music, they may disappoint their current fans. Some of your fans will desert you; however, the faithful will be rewarded by sticking with you. The metaphor here is: playing cover music is pain relief care and your original music is health.
It’s so easy to just play cover music. It’s been done before and you just do what is expected of you. Original music, concepts, and ideas are going to be ridiculed at the beginning. This is where so many DCs cave and become cover bands doing what is expected of them: stay in the land of BSOs, wheeling and dealing, sales, marketing, and what’s been done before. Not only are they compensated at the level of the cover band, but they also have to be under the watchful eye of their new employer, health insurance, with all of its limitations and mountains of paperwork.
The dichotomy between a cover band (social order) and original music (natural order) plays out in our daily lives. Will you do what you know to be true or do you cave? Do you keep it a secret that you have a lot more to offer than a Karaoke DC? Do we endure an average existence in practice because, after all, we are only Chiropractors? Do we look the other way when we have to sell BSOs to our practice members and betray their trust? Do we ascribe to the socially acceptable belief (discrimination, some people are better than others) as to which people receive our service according to their insurance coverage? Do we continue to play pain relief doctor when we know better because we will be booed for playing original music (health care, not disease care)?
Playing originals takes great courage. Yes, it is a risk to bid farewell to your loyal audience of people who never respected you, insurance companies, and other area DCs who will not speak well of you. You must equip yourself with boundaries, intense connections, communication skills, and compassion for people lost in a world of sickness, limitation, and lack. Become a witness to your greatness. Taking the easy way out is for cover bands, not for TNR members.
DCME confidential

Question 1: I’ve been doing the 2 tiers of recommendations and practice members are intrigued about the 21-Day DCME Video Program. They want me to spend time telling them what it is and then they ask if they can purchase it a la carte.
Answer: The answer is no. This flies in the face of the traditional business sense of placing profit before people’s needs. If the practice member chooses the first level of care, they are sending you a message: they don’t know who you are and what you stand for. They also aren’t willing to accept you as a leader and you will be paid accordingly. The heavy-duty DCME is greater than the sum of its parts. You can’t take it apart and sell it a la carte. That’s what the business model believes that puts profit ahead of everything else. Give practice members the option of upgrading at a future date, but keep all parts of the heavy duty recommendation intact.
Question 2: I will be seeing a potential DCME this week with a rare genetic illness that has no cure. Should I agree with what can’t be done or should I stick my neck out to help this child? I am feeling like canceling the consultation. I don’t even know if I can help.
Answer: If you are having this much doubt, you don’t have enough training to fall back on. Few DCs do. It’s difficult enough with parent pressures, financial pressures, insurance not paying, and board authorities wanting you to stick with adult musculoskeletal pain for a few visits. Ask yourself: why do you want to care for this child? If it is only for your benefit (higher case value), you are not ready for this level of DCME. Be the best version of yourself you can be with continual TNR training and be 100% committed to this kid. Then you can rest assured everything you can do has been done with no regrets and no guarantees about outcomes.
Hachi turns 1!

Red Sox are National Champs again!
To celebrate their accomplishments, the Hachi incentive will be extended to this Friday. It pays to know Hachi Bear, the wonder dog.
Dr. Megan Cartillar on the Reservation
Dr. Megan is our full-time Love Has No Color DC on the Reservation. She has been promoted to clinic director by Kenny Smoker and she will be staying on the Reservation for at least another year. She loves the kids, is a tireless worker, and is one of Kenny’s right-hand people. Congrats, Dr. Megan!
