The Pulse of TNR!

Thank you for the sweet feedback!

It seems that this paper, three-ring binder type newsletter hits the Sweet Spot for many! It fills an important void in the constant drone of the distractive, personal power robbing, virtual world. It monitors your progress in TNR. If you place a note on one of the newsletters from 2018 and then look at it a year later in 2019, will say to yourself, "How silly my previous thinking was!"? If you have any cosmic debris, stories of DCs exhibiting AOR (acute onset retardation), or any other worthy items, send them to TNR via email. Each week you can look to see if your article, comment, or photo makes the newsletter.

Pats didn’t win the Super Bowl

No matter how many Super Bowl trophies a team has won over the years and no matter how great the coach or the players are, anything can happen. In a professional sport like football, where there are billions upon billions of dollars at stake, the competition is fierce and today’s champ can become tomorrow’s chump. How can things change so quickly? It’s all because of agents of change.

In our offices, there are so many agents of change: CAs, practice members departing, regulation changes, social media reviews, people’s low value of Chiropractic care, acquiring new patients, and the ever-present worshipful belief in disease. All of these, along with many more, invisibly conspire against you to make this year’s practice have less vision, less profit, and less fun than last year's. It’s not like you have been told that each year in practice will be better. The truth is, you will have to be better this year than you were last year. The majority of DCs obediently accept a certain level of income and patient visits and like a thermostat, remain there for the rest of their careers. They are unwilling to do the work required to continually grow, yet they still expect to grow. They are paralyzed and overwhelmed because the agents of change remain unopposed in their offices and they deny that anything can be done to improve their circumstances.

Warriors understand that agents of change are always there in any arena they find themselves in, plotting to make you average and a card carrying member of the herd of mediocrity. If you plan to have excellence in any part of your life, expect continual visits from agents of change. These people, norms, and expectations of society are designed to get you back on the bell curve where you belong. Can you say mediocrity? From marriage, to parenting, to being an ultra-successful TNR DC, you will be exposed daily to agents of change. Almost like saboteurs, they attempt to sap you of your personal power and your mission and to place you where you belong…with everyone else on the bell curve.

When these agents of change rear their ugly heads, smile and solve the issues with no loss of personal power. You may have to let go of an abusive PM that is disruptive. You may have to set free an underperforming CA. A patient may ask if you will work with their real doctor (MD). Instead of a problem, it may take the shape of an opinion, a doubting Thomas, or people who say you can’t. Just smile and remember that you have no duty to agree or defend your position. In other words, don’t sink your emotions into agents of change and don't ruminate or dwell on them. Even when you can’t see them, they are around you at every corner, waiting to mess things up, almost like that mayhem guy who advertises for Allstate insurance. Don’t think that you are going to get rid of them or that they won’t happen in your office. Expect them and deal with them. Associates and operators (not owners) are insulated and don’t deal well with agents of change. They know this and seek shelter from the storm. The consequence for this is 3,5,10x less income, less responsibility, and they must work someone else’s dream.

From the DCME files

What do you think is the youngest age for the 21-day video DCME program? 15, maybe 13…guess again. A 9-year-old is using this program with supervision. Nine-year-olds get very distracted and have short attention spans. When this nine-year-old watches it, he doesn’t appear to be understanding anything, certainly not like an adult. This little guy comes to you direct from Miyagi’s private client DCME’s, courtesy of a referral from Taylor Chiropractic, said after the first day, “So what you’re saying is that I am focusing too much on the problem and not enough on the solution!” Out of the mouths of babes. When you are selecting potential practice members for this program, remember that understanding is not necessary to achieve results. If they are willing to do the program, they will get results; it's that simple. Do not, under any circumstance, let the cost of this premium program prevent you from offering this to people who need this military strength program. There is no program inside or outside of Chiropractic that achieves what this program does. Many times, understanding comes only after looking back after achieving results.

Go the extra mile for PMs

Back in the sixties when I was in second grade, unbeknownst to me, my parents, or my teachers was the fact that I couldn’t hear that well. All the ear infections, sore throats, colds, and round after round of drugs had gone past my neurological threshold to hear. Sounds silly today, but back then, I just got used to a world where you couldn’t hear. I adapted as best that I could. When the teacher wrote something on the board, I was as smart as the next kid. But when she spoke, I entered that world of darkness. In first grade, I got away with it; but in the second grade, I was assigned to the ‘retarded’ class. Looking around the room, these kids were really impaired and I knew I didn’t belong with them. They were legitimately handicapped and disabled. I pleaded that there must be some kind of mistake, but my jailers were not interested in my objections. I talked to the head teacher about me not belonging here and she told me to sit down and shut up. When I would raise my hand to answer a question about how to spell cat (we spent weeks on this question), she would hit my knuckles with a ruler. So many outsiders will ignorantly ask why I didn’t tell someone like my parents. Instead of asking for help, when you feel like a victim you will plunge into a deep, dark silence of shame and guilt. Many reading this are nodding their heads in agreement. After a while I stopped putting my hand up to answer questions and accepted my fate as ‘retarded’.

Along comes a student teacher who looked like my youngest daughter Dr. Randi Jo, and she said there was something wrong with this kid, but he’s not retarded. She saw my gift and my potential; she believed in me even though I was rapidly losing hope. She took me under her wing, she sent me home with huge amounts of homework, and she took a genuine interest in me. She told me that if I could read at the third-grade gold level (SRA color reading system), she would get me out of my ‘prison’ into a regular class. When I could read at that level, the head teacher started screaming at her (she wasn’t a real teacher yet and thus didn’t know anything.) Then she removed me from the class and fired the student teacher. The student teacher lost her job to set this bird free. This was to become a recurring theme throughout my life with mentors who took me under their wing from ‘reading angels’, to hockey coaches who saw that something special in me, to my Chiropractic mentor, Dr. Joe Flesia. Although I didn’t know what I know now about Chiropractic, my destiny was set into motion to give DCs a second chance to bring their gifts and talents out to help people. The health of the world depends on it.

You never know what any of your PMs are going through. Many parents will have a huge story about their child’s illness with lots of medical activity, but resign themselves to no results. They will not let you help them, but it looks like they are really trying. Other parents don’t really let you in on the social and family dynamics, they only share the symptoms and disease. How can you tell who needs the special attention immediately if some people are less than truthful about their circumstances? A solution to this problem is the two-tiered recommendation at the Report of Findings. At level one, you have your regular recommendations. At level two, you have an expanded level that includes more frequency, more duration (up to 6 months), time with you outside of the office (this does not have to be part of level two recommendations), the DCME 21-day video program, and your individualized touches as well.

Dr. Teri's Birthday!

Dr. Teri is an incredible once-in-a-lifetime DC, mother, wife, and TNR member who does it all! From fundraising for LHNC (is it my imagination or does she do something every week?) to visiting start-up offices and encouraging members, she makes whatever she is a part of better.

Thank you, from Kenny Smoker

To the Wonderful People of Love Has No Color,

On behalf of the Fort Peck people, I would like to say Thank You. We feel very blessed to receive the many wonderful Christmas gifts from the people of Love Has No Color.

At times it is difficult to tell others what this means to our children, words sometimes may not express what is within the heart. Many of our people, especially our children, don’t have much and are very thankful for what they received. For some, this kind gesture is a life-changing experience. Their expression in the pictures says it all. What your group does, defines who you people are.

Our people were taught by example and instruction, with the emphasis on example; LHNC does this repeatedly to help others. What a great model for our children to see and be exposed to. Thank you for giving of yourselves; traveling to Fort Peck to spend time with our people and share your gift of love. Your group has the characteristics of a true warrior: Wisdom, Bravery, Fortitude and Generosity. I look forward to these visits, you bring out the best in our people. What a small but powerful group!

Your friend,

Kenny Smoker

5-10% of pre-pays goes a long way!

A great way of donating year-round to LHNC is by donating 5-10% of pre-pays to LHNC. The patient will receive a beautiful color, hand signed certificate from LHNC that recognizes your PM and you. Millennials get a bad rap in a lot of categories, but they love social cause and are all about it. If you want lots of referrals and growth, let your practice members know about your social cause.

In case you didn’t hear, Miss America will be speaking at the Fort Peck Reservation!

LHNC, Kenny Smoker, HPDP and others are always on the search/prowl for people of interest to help inspire the kids.  Thanks to Dr. Stephanie Mills, current Miss America and Miss North Dakota, Cara Mund, will be visiting the reservation and speaking especially to the girls on the reservation about girl power, making great decisions and raising the bar with expectations rather than lowering it.

March 15, 2018; Save the date! Miss America will be visiting the kids on the Fort Peck Reservation.

Samantha is back from Iceland!

It may have been a little strange for those of you who have called the past few days to not hear Samantha's voice on the other end. That's because she was off exploring Iceland!

55mph wind, snow, rain, sun, hail, an earthquake registering at 5.1...she experienced it all during her northern adventure. She said that everything was so incredibly beautiful and untouched, that it was as if she was looking at a postcard everywhere she looked. Here are a few photos from her trip:

Have you traveled recently, or are you traveling soon? Send TNR your pictures when you do!! We'd love to see your part of the world through your lens, next.
