What is Your Depth of Belief?

Every once in a while a thought comes into your existence and you just can’t let it go.  I wanted to share this concept with you.  The sooner you understand that your beliefs (and everybody else’s) run your lives and your perception of the world the more successful you’ll be.  Here are some examples of this concept in our offices:

A practice member gets so excited about their care, gushes about you on social media, says they are ‘all in’ and going to tell the whole world. Then after a few visits, they drop off the face of the planet.  What gives?

A potential new patient who you meet outside your office gets so excited after talking with you about help for her child who is ailing.  You seemed so positive she was going to make an appointment and then…nothing.  What gives?

A brand new patient says they will be attending your Health Awareness Seminar with a guest and is very enthusiastic.  When they don’t show up for it and they come in for their next adjustment they say “Was that last night, completely slipped my mind”.  What gives?

Going back to something my mentor Dr. Joe Flesia taught me, there are 4 levels of energy in our society.  (Important to remember, Millennials and Gen Xs depend on their computers for validation and stimulation.)

  • Mediocrity- considered by others to be the normal level of human experience.
  • Excitement- a momentary stimulation from some thing, person, book, movie, seminar, or experience that is a transient neurological flutter that never changes a class of behavior or changes subconscious programming.
  • Emotion- a deeper stimulation that changes behavior for a short time. A neuro-hormonal flush that lasts longer than excitement.  Usually lasts up to a few weeks, frequently less.  Has nothing to do with new programs of behavior.  Because it seems deeply rooted, it fools people into thinking it is permanent.  It’s not and should be discarded.
  • Passion- an ongoing neuro-hormonal flush sustained by the appropriate strategies (TNR training, procedures and experiences) so that the new behavior it stimulates becomes permanent. This is offered in few places and events in our society.  At this level of energy beliefs are self-sustaining, almost permanent in nature.

Most of the people you will ever meet are in levels 1 to 3 of energy, especially people who tend to align more with being liked, accepted and not able to settle into the contrarian life of TNR DCs.  When you have high levels of energy (conserving personal power) you automatically participate at the highest level, do your homework, attend TNR events, and then demonstrate these newfound concepts back in your office, community and family life. Your energy state will change…guaranteed!

Too many DCs become distracted by energy/personal power robbing events, circumstances, computers, staff, relationships, finances, etc.  Do I mean TNR docs don’t go through these challenges?  Not on your life.  We go through them and find solutions quickly so they don’t continue to steal personal power.  When DCs say they are overwhelmed, it’s because of distractions consciously or subconsciously stealing their personal power.

Some Symptoms of a Lower Depth of Belief

I had a member brag about saving $15,000 on a home improvement project. He spent 117 hours scraping, prepping and painting his house.  Imagine 117 hours of studying, attending high level TNR events, having new patient activities and  speaking engagements.  He complains about his practice not growing as much as he wants.  He chose to spend his energy on an activity that will not expand his belief in Chiropractic or his practice.  Those 117 hours would parlay into 10x that amount in your office if properly applied.  Remember, beliefs have no morality…they either help you toward your goals or away from your goals.

I had a member go on and on about a book that was revolutionary and was going to change the world.  “You have to read it Dr. Kevin.”  I told him that if he was this excited about the book in a year or two, I will definitely read it.  This person will read a book, talk about it for awhile, and then discard it.  The warrior almost always does not read from the New York Times best seller list.  Warriors from the past and present actually do book reports and summaries on the important books they read.  Again, a concept and approach to life that is different and distinct from most of society.

“Dr. Kevin, my daughter is in the county hop scotch championship and I won’t be able to attend the upcoming seminar.  Do you have a PowerPoint or YouTube video I can watch instead?”  This person is hiding behind the familiar protection of showing society what a great parent they are.  Having a deep depth of belief is a choice, not a sacrifice.  We are all family people, however, our depth of belief of our Chiropractic magnets will not be increased with family activities.  If you are interested in being a Navy Seal type of DC, there is training involved in becoming one.  When a military person leaves their families for months at a time, nobody blinks an eye because of our depth of belief in war.  When a DC gets maybe 6-10 days of training a year, their spouses cry foul.  Being the best DC and helping people is waaaay below society’s belief in engaging in war.  Something to think about…how bad do you want to change the paradigm of society from disease to health?

I had a member say “LHNC gift and fundraising doesn’t work in my town.  People don’t like to help the kids on the reservation.  I’d like to help, but I have a hard time with new patients as it is.”  What this DC doesn’t realize is how Christmas on the reservation would help their practice with record numbers of NPs, retention and income, as well as the kids.  Again, it’s a choice to be successful, not a sacrifice.

Increasing your depth of belief and your personal power takes effort on your part.  It will not increase by itself.  TNR is all about DCs getting the training, guidance and joining a community of DCs who are on the same path.  TNR seems to be a repository for DCs who didn’t fit in with their families, weren’t recognized as being special, were outsiders, were seen as average in the eyes of society, or were running away from their greatness.  Doing what you did previous to TNR may or may not be enough in your journey to be a once in a lifetime DC.  We take your previous personal history and add to it the necessary ingredients to be successful in any endeavor of your choosing.  That’s depth of belief!
