The Pulse of TNR!
MasterMind/TNR Seminar in Massachusetts on March 16th & 17th
I am so excited to have our TNR members and their guests experience New England. Many of our TNR doctors plan trips around the seminar weekend. Some leave the kids behind, stay an extra day or two for tourist stuff, and enjoy a romantic getaway. Special note: The Hall at Patriot Place (New England Patriots Museum) is still open even after the Super Bowl loss. Some have H2Hs before or after the seminar so they can combine the trip. Resist the urge to virtualize TNR with coaching calls and online materials only. You just won’t get the full experience or the BENEFITS! Not even close! There are only two opportunities to introduce friends, colleagues, or someone you care about to the world of TNR at our general TNR Seminar since we only have two general TNR Seminars scheduled on our 2018 calendar. Please note: For the first time ever MasterMind will be held at TNR headquarters in Norwood, Massachusetts and will include some great surprises. The general TNR Seminar will be held at Taylor Family Chiropractic in Medway, Massachusetts.
Dr. Kevin rocked the house at the Mass Alliance for Chiropractic Philosophy
Drs. Peter Kevorkian (chairman of the board of Sherman College) and Patti Guilano (League of Chiropractic Women) have hosted these monthly infusions of philosophy for 26 years. Together they have done more for subluxation based Chiropractic in Massachusetts than anyone else. They are truly selfless people, with one heart and mind that keeps the Chiropractic flame burning strong in Massachusetts.
I hadn't spoken there for three years and it’s always nice to come back home, almost like a homecoming of sorts. I saw lots of familiar faces, including first-year TNR members Drs. Christy and Cliff Taylor. There is a lot of truth about the saying that you can’t be a prophet in your own backyard. It felt as though they consider me as a homegrown success and a friend, not someone to become their mentor, to help them bring Chiropractic to more people with 3 types of care, kids, DCME, etc. It's kind of like when friends come into your office...they just don’t see you as the doctor! You know exactly what I’m talking about!
I was minding my own business and starting to get my material ready for my presentation when a young DC asked me if I was Dr. Kevin. I answered yes and he said he wanted to thank me and he filled me in on a miracle story. His superstar CA is none other than one of my practice members from 1990. He told me that she came with him to listen to me! My eyes moistened as I took in his kind words.
The year was 1990, I still had lots of hair, and had begun my journey away from a white coat and disease model practice. Lorna entered as a young woman who was being denied assignment to be a policewoman because of an unspeakable crime: she had had a head injury in a MVA. This was before concussions and PTSD were mainstream and they were saying she was unfit to serve.
After months of Chiropractic care, I wrote a lengthy letter to the board of Selectmen of her town recommending her fit to serve. She became known as ‘Officer Lorna’ around town. She was a town staple, especially with the kids. She ran the DARE program (okay, everyone is doing the best they can) and had an incredible 25-year career. She was never just a practice member, she was always attending our office events and even heard Dr. Guy Riekeman speak. She read any Chiropractic books I gave her and referred in many new patients. She was a true VIP Practice Member.
She spoke to the group Saturday night and said, "This man saved my life!" She welled up with tears as she spoke her truth. You never know just how far-reaching kindness and the TNR style urgency can be. You never know the social and family dynamics a PM is going through because you don’t experience their reality. She spoke of all the ways Chiropractic and a doctor who was in her corner from day 1 affected her life. It was very humbling. She has touched the lives of so many, keeping kids away from a life of crime, drugs, poor decisions, etc. She has affected hundreds of people in a positive way. She mentioned that all the hardened criminals that she had seen had that look in their eyes, like the pilot light was off. It was so obvious to her that they needed adjustments, lots of them.
Looking around the room I noticed a general lull of energy. I thought, are you kidding me? A group of like-minded DCs getting together should be cause for a celebration. There was a missing ingredient of enthusiasm, excitement, awe, and respect for Chiropractic. They loved the philosophy of Chiropractic. Reading, talking about, and listening are the easy parts…DOING is the part that takes courage. The look on some of the new practitioners' faces said it all: fear and limitation were gripping them. The outdated disease model had them in its teeth. One is a traveling DC that comes to your house. Another one is an associate who must supplement his income with a second job. Another shares space with 4 other people. Whaaat?
I asked Dr. Patti what was considered an ultra-successful practice when she first started and she said it was 1,000 people a week. She said 50-100 per week is considered successful today. Now don’t get me wrong, there were people in the audience tickling 7 figures, but there were many others that were hurting and their pride, fear, and isolation prevents them from asking for help. They just don’t let themselves and their families down, they don’t get to see patients like Officer Lorna. Each ‘Officer Lorna’ changes the world for the better. They light all kinds of lights for people because of their levels of resonation and health. She didn’t just come in for a handful of visits. She came in for hundreds upon hundreds of visits for years!
TNR is always been dedicated to the ‘Officer Lornas’. They touch so many people. Are they the majority? Far from it. They are the precious few, like those who fought in the American Revolution or marched with MLK. They bring in their kids for Chiropractic care with social services breathing down their necks. They fight for and demonstrate what they believed in to the unbelieving and uncaring masses. Quantity (majority, acceptance) never does the trick. It’s quality, a mixture of honor, renegade, contrarian, pirate spirit, and a connection to people that moves mountains.
Look at the statistics of Love Has No Color. How can such a small number of committed people create such forward evolution? It’s the high resonating few, not the sleeping masses. If TNR had 137 members, not only would our profession be forever changed, the world would change because each office would pump out Officer Lornas. These are parents, teachers, lawyers, engineers, etc., who have a shared interest with humanity instead of thinking only of their own needs. They adhere to a higher code of honor and they encourage others to do so.
If you know of any great DCs that are stuck, lost in a world of limitation, drama, or isolation, invite them to the seminar in Boston. Let that one seminar be a defining moment in their lives. The more Officer Lornas, the better for humanity.
Love Has No Color Update

Our members know that our LHNC fundraising goes on all year round. If you have anything to donate, like money or new or gently used clothing, you don't have to wait until next year. The need for these things is never limited to a specific season on the Reservation. Everything you send is given to those who are in desperate need. Recently my daughters, Drs. Randi Jo and Christy cleaned out their closets and shipped six huge boxes of gently used, high fashion clothes and shoes to the Reservation. Kenny Smoker gave these clothes to a young female who is going to the University of Montana. She stays with her grandmother who is also raising young children. This young woman’s parents are both incarcerated. She works all kinds of odd jobs to help her get through college. Kenny said this young woman was thrilled to receive these clothes and that it made all the difference in the world to her. She now dresses the part of a young co-ed and her spirits have been uplifted. Kenny always seems to know which people the gifts and clothes should go to.
Please do NOT support any critical voices
At any one given time, a member is going to hear from critical voices online and offline about the pursuit of a once in a lifetime DC. The forms these critical voices take are as infinite as the ways of not giving your all to anything and making fun of those who do. These critical voices also have stories that almost appear to be part of their DNA as to why they can’t be the best versions of themselves. On the Reservation, it's common to hear inmates in the jail say it’s not so bad in here. Believe it or not, these critical voices can be family, spouses, friends, relatives and yes, other DCs! Whenever you leave the herd behind, they take this as you don’t like them any longer, that you think you’re better than them, and they tend to say some ugly and nasty things about you. Some will even attack you.
Last weeks' agents of change brought more than a few chuckles at the reality that was being described. TNR training is the only viable alternative to being worn down by people, who at a deep subconscious level, don’t want you to be successful. Flying in formation with TNR training allows you to stand alone at times when it comes to your convictions, your beliefs, your values and your ambition. When you want to be accepted or agree with everyone, you are dead meat. The majority will gang up on you and pulverize you. Being a warrior means you don’t lose personal power over people not going your way, not believing in health, or only to speak the language of disease. Here are some examples:
Fellow DCs: The reality is that many are not happy or fulfilled being DCs. Look at your license credit renewal snoozefests. Others love being DCs and are proud of their lack of prosperity. Almost like a religion, they steadfastly cling to the excuses and reasons for their lack of success. If you happen to hear bitching and moaning at a TNR event, do yourself (and TNR) a favor by politely, yet firmly, explaining your own philosophy on this. A lot of DCs have not yet embraced the big library (study, train) vs big TV principle (no-study, relax) and do not yet understand the closed loop between investment in self and improvement.
Spouses: Hey, they love you and don’t want to share you with anyone else. It’s not a TNR thing, it's because they want you at home. They are well-meaning and they sound logical; however, in their chosen profession, there probably is no high-level training required. You get a doctor degree and never improve upon it? You’re training levels might be 5,10, 30 years behind. Spouses, for the most part, just don’t get the training thing until they witness the transformation in their spouses. Everyone benefits when the DC is trained. There is more compassion and love, more income, more patience, less moodiness, less worry, etc. They always comment on how everything is beautiful around them. Then they ask you, "When is the next TNR event?"
Family and friends: They just don’t understand why you are so into what you do. They might say that they never get to see you anymore. They will cite examples of friends that think of their jobs as just a business, and they hate their jobs. Being ultra-successful means making decisions that create results. Being humanitarian makes it difficult for most people to understand you. Don’t expect others to care as you do.
Keep 3 hole punching your newsletters. Study them, write notes with dates on them. When you review them in a year, you won’t believe your growth. Don’t think that you won’t experience critical voices. You will; however, have a strategy that prevents it from claiming another DC victim.
The earth is flat
We all can laugh at how preposterous this concept now is, but for people who had those beliefs, there was no changing their minds. People will gladly die for their beliefs in anything. Nowadays there are certain socially accepted testing laboratories for pushing the beliefs of the herd. One of them is Delta Airlines. They seem to have more incidents than all the other carriers combined. Did you hear about the passenger who was denied entry on to a plane with an ‘emotional support’ hamster? The rodent was denied entry and the passenger asked what she should do with it. The TSA agent said they didn’t know but suggested she flush it down the toilet. She did and was forced to fly without her emotional support hamster. I bet she is getting a lot of inquiries from lawyers right about now. Did she have to purchase a companion ticket for the hamster? What was the accrediting agency that granted the title of emotional support hamster?
Parent’s Guide has been rewritten and is ready to order
It was originally written in 2007 and now has been updated for 2018. We just received our new order. Thank you for your patience to our members who have had them back ordered. Also, we have made the price more attractive at $9.95 per book. And if you order in bulk you can save more money. You should be using them with each and every PM, starting with putting one in the Important Patient Record Folder. The number one overhead factor in any DC's office is the new patient acquisition cost. The investment you make to give each PM one of these books will give you returns of hundreds to thousands over the cost of the book!
