The Pulse of TNR!
Super Academy January 20th & 21st
This is one of the most feared experiences in TNR. Communication skills, quite simply, are a forgotten art form and it shows with historic lows in visits and income in Chiropractic offices. When you have a gripe in life, there’s always a lack of communication behind it. Marriage and relationship issues: yes, it's all about communication. Kids not listening to you: ditto. PMs not respecting you and telling you what to do: yeah, it’s a communication deal. Your dog won’t listen to you and holds you as an emotional hostage: it’s a communication thing again. Income not where you want it: same deal.
The top four reasons for not attending:
- You hate role-playing and being watched by other doctors, especially Miyagi
- You have great communication skills already and simply don’t need to improve them
- You wish you could watch a video about this at a later date or read a book about it rather than have the experiential experience
- The price of the seminar (1-2 new patients would actually pay for this)
One of the unique beauties of being in TNR is transformation. It can only happen as a result of painful, experiential training and blasting through your comfort zone. There is no higher return on your investment than increasing your communication skills. No matter how good your clinical skills are and your philosophy is, you are going to have to communicate it to PMs for it to be a win-win situation. Remember, the rest of the profession are doing things to minimize discomfort. They are looking for simple solutions to complex problems to make it more convenient for themselves, and it shows. You don’t have to like or understand the strategy of Super Academy to get the benefit from it!
Practice tip of the week!
Don’t be in such a rush to jump to solutions with your PMs. First, you must get to know them and their individual circumstances. If you don’t they will use you as a common vendor or commodity. We are trained (a la medicine) to diagnose and classify their illness, etc. That’s the outdated model and most DCs are still stuck in it. The PM will not cooperate until a relationship of trust is established. Example: If we walk into a store to purchase a specific item and a sales associate asks, "Can I help you?", we reply by saying, "I'm just browsing." It’s a lie! We came to buy something, but the communication of the sales associate triggered sales fear and we will run. So you need to create a relationship built on trust first before you start in with solutions or patient education. Just like with personal trainers, it’s not what type of exercise, nutrition, or contraptions that they use, it’s strictly if the client trusts the trainer to guide them in their journey. Similar to the trainer, we want to inspire and encourage our patients to be successful along their journeys.
Asking for more commitment gets better results
Don’t cave when it comes to your recommendations. They are standardized recommendations based on effectively removing the first layers of nerve system compromise. Don’t base them on pain or symptoms. Lots of DCs outside of TNR think they are helping PMs by lowering their fees and recommendations, making deals, and having gym membership-type fees. In reality, they are crippling the PMs just like an overindulgent parent does to their kids. You are asking for a very small amount of commitment that yields a huge change in their lives. Don’t be put off point with what the popular media believes Chiropractic to be…practice the way you choose to practice.
Great Idea!
Many high-level members have been taking advantage of this idea for a long time now. When attending events, they ‘double up’ and have a H2H before or after the event. Members who have long airplane trips especially like this strategy. There are, of course, only a limited number of slots available. One is already reserved by a DC from a country where they say double, double (a slang reference to Tim Horton's, two creams two sugars). If you want to double, double for SA, call headquarters and make arrangements!
