The Pulse of TNR!
TNR Seminar and MasterMind this weekend!
Buckle up for the ride of your life! When you are at the seminar, look around at all the seeming differences there are with attendees. They come from all walks of life and are different as night and day. What’s the common link? They all love being DCs and are on the path to becoming a Once in a Lifetime DC. We celebrate unity in the big vision of Chiropractic without surrendering to conformity. To be successful in TNR, it doesn’t matter where you’ve come from, it’s where you’re going that’s important. MasterMind participants are in for some great surprises. This is the first time MasterMind will be held at TNR headquarters and you just never know what to expect, including a special guest.
Miss America will be on Fort Peck on Thursday, March 15
Miss America Cara Mund, formerly Miss North Dakota, will be speaking to the students of the Wolf Point and Poplar school systems. She is the first Miss America to visit a reservation that we are aware of. A special thanks goes out to Dr. Stephanie Mills of New Hampshire, for making this opportunity available, as well as underwriting the majority of the costs. Her daughter Brooke, who has been to the reservation five times with Love Has No Color, will be making the trip this week to escort Miss American to and from the reservation. Kenny Smoker said the students are very excited about the visit.
Do you give off the box store vibe?
I got the call from my wife. Our neighbors had a large tree limb fall down across their driveway and they were getting back from a trip to Mexico later that night. It would be nice to cut up the branch for them so they could get closer to their house. The chainsaw started right up but the blade was as dull as a butter knife. Last year a neighborhood lawnmower, snow blower, and chainsaw repair shop had opened up less than a mile from our house. I hadn't been to this shop yet and decided to see if they could help me out. I walked in and found out that the owner of the shop used to work at the local hardware store and knows everybody. He embodies everything not box store. He is a people kind of guy, wants to know who you are, and what you do. He put the new chain on my saw on a busy Saturday, no problem, while customer after customer came in with their suburban woes of small gas engine misery. One guy mentioned that twelve years ago the owner came to his house and started his snow blower for him. Another one said he loaned him a snow blower in a blizzard three years ago. A third customer said that he carved a path with a snow blower for him to feed the birds. What a real nice guy.
What a totally different experience from box stores. At box stores, some of the people know what they are doing, but they don’t know you. You are a commodity to them, as well as interchangeable. You're a face in the crowd and there is no lasting relationship. If you go back the very next day, the person probably isn't on shift that day. Since there is no relationship with you, the service is practically non-existent. Non box stores obviously don’t have the selection of a box store, but they more than make it up with relationships and service. As I walked in, I found myself wondering, will he have a chain that fits my saw? He did! Plus there was the ambiance of a service driven business, not a sales only business. Box stores are built for sales, the non box store concept is mainly service after the purchase. These are two entirely different orientations.
I was reminded of how most Chiropractic offices are either the new patient acquisition type (box store) or the service after the sale type (non box store). If you have a terminally low patient visit average, does it really matter what vehicle you are using to get your new patients? Even with using online or offline tactics, screenings, bait and switch, and groupons, you will still be faced with what happens once they get to your office. They will leave you very soon after the sale is consummated if you don't have proper procedures in place. Box store care is almost like emergency care where there is no relationship with the patient. To be a community (vs. a commodity) or a Once in a Lifetime DC, each and every new patient gets treated like family because they are. They will be with you for years and years to come.
Isn’t it funny that even if the service costs more (it doesn’t), it's infinitely worth it. If you are reading this, shop LOCALLY. Yes, there is a time and a place for box store purchases, but since you own your own office, you are in the relationship business. Establishing a power equipment store relationship locally is part of running a successful practice. Every service you purchase should have the same orientation. Don’t get seduced by the box store allure of convenience and pricing. Apply this same approach with plumbers, lawyers, CPAs, electricians, hairdressers, etc. You can expect lots of referrals if you form relationships like this. You will cut yourself off from future referrals if you always buy things at box stores or online because it is convenient or a couple of dollars less. It’s not worth it!
DCME news
Dr. Teri, Dr. Mark, and Dr. Craig are not able to make the upcoming seminar, but they really want guidance NOW for DCME cases. The solution: they all are doing H2Hs in and around the TNR Seminar and MasterMind. It is common for doctors to have their H2H right before or right after the TNR events, especially for doctors who must fly a great distance. It really makes sense! All of the dates for the upcoming TNR events are listed on the TNR website, so get these dates blocked out ahead of time. Family things and other temptations will present themselves if you don’t. TNR training sessions are for your sanity and your family’s. Being around like-minded DCs gives you a chance to vent and to see solutions to the things other DCs put up with for a lifetime. No wonder there are so many older, cranky DCs. Don’t let your growth momentum slow down by missing events. One of the great things about H2Hs is they can be customized. Having several of them annually will fill in areas you need more help with, clarification on, etc.
People acting like people
Those members who have dogs will get a chuckle out of this one. There is a local elementary school that has some open fields and paths behind it and it is used as a dog walking area. Most people bring their dogs, but some just like to walk the trails without a dog. If you are going to walk there, almost any time of the day, there are going to be dogs. One of the great freedoms of living in a suburban setting is the ability to let your dog off the leash while walking in the fields. They get to roam, fetch balls, and run and play with the other dogs. A few days ago Dr. Christy and Dr. Julie were walking their babies (Roscoe, Copper, and Hachi) at the fields and they were approaching a woman in the field who didn't have a dog. When you are walking in the fields, dogs will run up to you, probably because they think they will get love from everyone. They sniff, look you over, and move on. This woman starts shrieking, “Get those dogs away from me!” She was so scared. So the big question is: why was this woman walking in a dog walking area if she didn't like dogs or was afraid of them? People acting like people. If you have any such stories, send them to TNR and maybe it will be in upcoming TNR happenings.
Samantha headed to the Boston Red Sox
"After a lot of thought and consideration, I have decided to part with TNR to pursue a video production position with the Boston Red Sox organization.
This past year has been exciting, eye-opening, and rewarding. I've enjoyed working for TNR and all of the amazing members that are a part of it. You are all such incredible people who care deeply about every person that you surround yourself with, and that is something I both respect deeply and will miss profoundly.
I am very excited to continue my career with the Red Sox, and am confident in myself and my abilities because of Dr. Kevin, Dr. Julie, and the TNR Family."
At end, we will all miss her and thank her for her many accomplishments, including the 21-Day DCME program.

If you have a DC who has expressed interest in joining TNR, put them in touch with us. A great start would be for them to do a video conference with me. Within minutes, they will be able to tell if TNR is the right fit. When people join TNR, many are still acorns, not great oaks. Remember yourself when you first joined. You’ve come a long way, baby!
