Tao of TNR Is This Saturday!
I’ve explained it in detail in previous newsletters. I’ll see you there!
Love Has No Color
As experienced for over two decades, Love Has No Color-powered offices are more fun, have more spirit and community, and, did I mention, outearn other offices dedicated solely to income? One thing I have learned after coaching more than a thousand doctors is that offices without a driving purpose beyond the doctors’ own needs become stagnant, experience increased staff turnover, attracting patients becomes harder, and retention and referrals become rare. When your staff and practice members get behind Love Has No Color, your office takes on a different dimension. It has a hum and vitality that doesn’t dim all year long. TNR resides outside of the world of the ordinary and is humanitarian. It is centered in the world of essence (truth): what is good for the office is good for the practice members, the doctors, the staff, and the community. It is an uncommon win-win scenario in the real world.
From the Mind of Miyagi
When you don’t understand the ‘tip of the iceberg’ concept, your mind automatically assumes that people who happen to be in the business must know the business. It’s simply not true. We subtly give away our power to people who are in the business, but they really don’t know what’s going on. From lawyers to MDs, accountants, DCs, and NDs, the ability levels vary from bush leagues to Hall of Famers. In the world of the ordinary, Google determines the skill level of service providers. It’s not true or accurate; rather, it’s an approximation. It is a substitute for us to look into something rather than taking someone’s (or something like AI's) word for it.
My son recently purchased a nice car, and it is stunning. Not long after, a deer and his car claimed the same place on the road at the same time. He felt terrible for the deer, but the damage to his car was much worse than he thought: cosmetic, mechanical, radiator, etc. The Balabanis Brothers have worked on our vehicles for over four decades, so he wanted them to fix his car.
The Balabanis Brothers know how to fix cars, but they cannot work on vehicles unless they get permission from the almighty insurance adjuster. This is the same thing in our profession when a person has to run it by a spouse who wasn’t there for the Report of Findings. The work on his car has been at a standstill for 6 weeks due to red tape and waiting. To be in that industry, you must be a willing participant in the game. The craftsmanship, quality, and detail is in the shadow of who pays. Those are the rules, unless you go outside them and pay cash. When it comes to healing, you can find yourself in a tension of opposites with each person you serve. They voice their opinions on what should happen and how quickly. I’m sure personal trainers also hear the same thing. The truth is that practice members will minimize their conditions. You have an empathy for the complete lack of knowledge they possess; however, they can refuse to accept your recommendations.
Like a tug of war, they are always pulling you towards their ignorance of what it actually takes to restore health. As a doctor and teacher, you have a responsibility to and for the practice member, although they do not share this with you. “I don’t care about health; just get rid of my symptoms.” This pushes on your center every day. If you don’t stay centered, it’s easy to cave, compromise, and listen to people yapping in your ear. A person in our family has recently found herself in a health crisis and in a hospital. Most people think she is safe. SHE IS NOT! She is caught between profit, fear, agenda, and the hospital's bureaucracy. What is the hospital’s responsibility, other than doing its job? You don’t want to know the answer. They should know, they are in the business, right? Like a professional football coach who is with their players and knows football, they still can’t tell you who will win on Sunday. Remember that when you mistakenly think someone knows.
Miracle Training
Dovetailing with the previous article, who gets to proclaim that a case is incurable? Do you mean the insurance benefits have run out or the doctor's patience has worn thin? What is really going on? In every case I have ever worked on, they are well-versed in the classification, diagnosis, or identification of the problem, but little is known about the solution. There are some that accept the death sentence, convenience, expense, and other factors that justify throwing in the towel, but I never get to show them that it simply is not true. I meet those who are not willing to give up their power.
People who have fallen through the cracks or have been given up on know the underbelly of judging something on looks only: what everyone else thinks, even though they don’t know. The tip of the iceberg is the effect or the problem, and not the cause. When people walk through my door, they are about to embark on the adventure of their lives. Is it easy? No. Is it convenient? No. Is it in their backyard? Most of the time, no. If they have the courage to complete their journey, they will have a compass that will help them face any adversity head-on in the future. It isn’t called the hero’s journey for nothing. Most get talked out of it by people whom they must ask for permission (see previous article), or if their insurance company doesn’t cover it. Then they put their heads down and accept their fate.
