Christmas on the Reservation…here we go again!
We just kicked off our gift and fundraising for COTR 2016. It will run through December 5th when all the presents need to be on the UPS truck. Dr. Teri Dunton is at it again raising almost $4,000 at a LHNC yard sale over the weekend. Bringing smiles to the kids on the reservation is what we do best. Using Amazon Smile is a way of making our dollars and gifts reach more kids. Check your snail mail for your Christmas on the Reservation guides, call HQ or look at the recent blog on savethereservation.org.
Many offices get a late start and their totals are not representative of their offices. Have enthusiasm and keep the momentum up the whole campaign for maximum effects. Those who also get help from outside their offices with businesses, religious groups, and wealthy donors make the most impact. In addition to the toys, gifts and clothing, we are also providing food for families on the reservation. We need all of our offices, and any offices you know that would like to participate, to push the envelope this year.
Practice tip of the week:
I spoke at the Connecticut Chiropractic X-Travaganza 2016 on Friday and saw some great New England DCs. It was great to see Dr. Michele Gardner in attendance. After the presentation, a well-known DC came up and said, “Dr. Kevin, you just flipped a switch in me when you said the birth process is a miracle from God, but the delivery process is an imperfect man made affair. Shouldn’t Traumatic Birth Syndrome really be Traumatic Delivery Syndrome?”
When explaining TBS, distinguish between the delivery process and the birth process. There is a reason why TBS has floundered in being accepted into mainstream consciousness. People just can’t bring themselves to see anything evil or sinister connected to the birth process. But they can with the delivery process. This may help some people to see that there can be complications. Noteworthy is in the legal arena, TBS or TDS is well documented and accepted. The awards are in the low 7 figures routinely.
Last TNR event of 2016:
We are presenting a special one-off MasterMind this time around. This event is closed door and has a strict cap so secure you MM ticket soon. Call and see if there are more available seats. By this week, there should be no seats left. Feedback from last TNR seminar was, “keep it coming. I loved the role playing and individualized attention.” Lots of experiential, comfort zone expanders and things you can implement immediately on Monday. If you have any colleagues or friends that could benefit from being in TNR then bring them – this is a great seminar to introduce them to TNR.
Columbus Day is not welcomed by Native Americans:
Most people in this country don’t understand what this celebrated holiday means to Native Americans. This holiday celebrates the time when their homeland was invaded and over 500 years of genocide began. As we speak this holiday will be replaced by another name or altogether replaced. The event is recorded in history as Columbus discovering America in1492 and it became a federal holiday in 1937. That’s a long time after the event. As with all belief systems, once they become accepted, they are hard to change. As DCs we see this in our profession. Imagine being tossed in jail for helping people with something other than the socially accepted medicine of the time (Chiropractic). All paradigm challengers are dealt with severely. As is always the case, you can make a choice, but it requires lots of courage to stand apart from public opinion. The question remains: to be accepted or to remain true to what you know to be true, even if it flies in the face of accepted truths, laws or norms? Hmmm.
