Mr. Miyagi Seminar on November 1st & 2nd
All DCs have the exact same degree and yet what they apply that degree towards is a very personal affair. Or is it? By default, most do the safe thing and deliver the socially accepted version of adult back and neck pain relief. They don't venture too far outside of the box and they give people what they want and think they need. You know adjustments, therapy, decompression, pain relief modalities, weight loss, etc. The one-size-fits-all business and marketing model being applied to yet another business. The pursuit of profit is put before what’s best for people. What makes a DC want to stand out in a sea of mediocrity?
“There are noble and profound human beings whose radiance and value are unknown even to their closest neighbors. People whose depth and nobility of soul live unexpressed inside situations that are for them so unnatural, oppressive and beyond their control, that as individuals they intentionally obscure their own spiritual majesty with a theatrical veneer of the same banal drive that surrounds them every day to avoid the pain of being mocked or trivialized if discovered by the heartless and uncomprehending. By doing this they inadvertently subsidize the mentality that oppresses them, adding further still to their own false belief that they are alone and that there are no others like them. It takes courage to be what the world needs, but the world never seems to change when you are alone.”
- The Smell of Rain on Dust by Martin Prechtel.
Miyagi, or any other TNR training, is not a buy the tee shirt, been there, done that type of training. Miyagi is a homecoming of once-in-a-lifetime DCs training like nobody else in our profession does or feels the need to do so. Kenny Smoker recently asked me how you find DCs of this quality. I answered, "I think they are attracted to something that resonates deep inside of them, something that is bigger than individual success. They are not content being good, because good is the enemy of great." Even the highest resonating people need a container or a group to belong to, to demonstrate their power and abilities.

Ho, Ho, Ho
Our 2019 gift raising drive is in full swing! As always, there are multiple levels of participation for your office, your family, your community, and beyond. Get everyone involved! Last year we noticed some offices got a late start and that affected the number of gifts collected. Start early this year and keep the energy going until the gifts, toys, and articles of clothing are on the UPS truck. Show pictures and videos to your practice members and give them the link to savethereservation.org. Interview me on a podcast and stream it in your office for your practice members. At your Health Awareness Seminar or workshop talk about why you're so passionately involved in Love Has No Color. Another great idea is to get the kids in your practice and your own kids involved. Don’t shield them from this tremendous opportunity. Take it to the schools, religious institutions, civic and social clubs, businesses, and, of course, the big fish, those in a position to donate big. Monetary donations will be used to purchase more gifts and food, depending upon how well we gift raise this year!

Practice tip of the week
Deputize your practice members, including children, to refer! Too many DCs default to the lowest common denominator of providing symptomatic relief for mostly adults. With a humanitarian model of health that’s different than others, you can deputize your people to spread the word. In the pre-internet days, when it was time for a practice member to leave after the adjustment, you would say, “Tell 12 people about Chiropractic.” It’s as valid today; however, the vehicle has changed to social media. Encourage, remind, and inspire your great practice members to share with all of their social media friends. Kids and teenagers are amazing advocates for the coolest place in town, your office. Don’t underestimate the degree of belonging a kid feels with you in their corner and being a part of your community. They will nag and hound their parents until the deed is done. Use your Baseline Assessment to its full advantage.
Make sure you have your LL Bean boots!
If you are planning on participating with passing out the gifts to the kids on the Reservation on December 12th & 13th, remember to bring warm clothing. Each year we see tremendous temperature fluctuations; however, error on the conservative side and prepare for frigid weather, including snow. If you’ve never been to a Christmas on the Reservation, please know that it’s a spiritual journey and unforgettable. Think about bringing your spouse and kids. We have had members bring kids as young as 1 or 2 and they do just fine handing out gifts. I’m reminded of Lady Diana, Dr. Sabrina’s incredible daughter: she couldn’t even speak one of her three languages yet, but she sure could stand in line and hand out the presents to the kids. She was a hit with the kids and teachers alike.
The first of the brand new Don’t Sweat it Head-to-Heads starts this week!
Rugrat Tyler Torkelson will break the ice this week, followed by Dr. Aaron next week, with others soon to follow! Get your ticket now!

From the mind of Miyagi

Don’t allow others to value what you bring to the table. It’s never a good idea. People don’t control your income; it’s all up to you and what you are willing to do. The industry norms are just that, for average DCs to be guided by. There is nothing average about TNR members. Warriors find a way, while everyone else finds excuses and must be told what, where, and when to do it. Insurance guidelines work hand-in-hand with these industry norms. You must be willing to venture outside of these norms and not ask permission to do so. From seeing kids with real illnesses and real recommendations, to wellness, DCMEs, and becoming autonomous to insurance suffocation, don’t let others impose their value on you. As you have gathered now, every TNR training is premium, as well as closed door. The reason for this is really obvious and simple. If the training for what you are doing was simple, convenient, and cheap, tons and tons of DCs would jump on the bandwagon. There are no simple solutions to complex problems.
You have to be willing to be ostracized, misunderstood, and even laughed at by others (including your inner circle and family) to accomplish your goals. Don’t attempt to gain consensus with people or colleagues. It’s a freedom that is still protected (somewhat) in this country. Being authentic and once-in-a-lifetime is difficult. There is a price to pay, but it’s not impossible.
DCME confidential

There will be more emphasis on the two levels of recommendations at almost all of the TNR training events. Not only are they constantly being upgraded and updated, they are different for different geographic regions. Each week, offices using them are constantly testing them and all members are the beneficiaries of what works TODAY in the world of 2 levels of recommendations. Every attempt is made to individualize these as many regulatory boards don’t want your pva to be anything except a handful of visits. Most boards are leaning heavily towards the musculo instead of the neuron. Seeing kids is a giant no-no in certain areas. Seeing kids with visceral illness is a definite no-no in some areas. You must make the language and syntax consistent for your area. Manhattan is not rural Alabama. No robotic scripts here. Practice them over and over and continue to tweak until you get yes, yes and more yeses! When you are tuned in, don’t change unless you start meeting consistent resistance.
