Tao of TNR Is This Saturday!
This is a training you won't want to miss! This could possibly be the last training at 521 Walpole St, Norwood. The building is being sold, and future trainings will happen at the ranch. Dr. Kevin will be giving away some of his books; this has only been done once before in 25 years. T-shirts might also be given away. Every training parts company with the cultural norm of: if you want to be average or mediocre, keep doing what you feel comfortable with. See you there!
Love Has No Color
As we pack to move from the office at 521 Walpole St, we have come across many letters, thank-you notes from the kids, and testimonials about experiences on the Fort Peck, Spirit Lake, and Lame Deer Reservations. These experiences affected each person individually, yet they were the same experience for all. Many outwardly squared-away doctors, staff, and friends experienced major shifts in their life trajectories. One testimonial in particular stood out from a couple with 3 kids who were on the brink of going their separate ways (divorce). They argued and stayed in separate rooms at the beginning of their visit to the Reservation; they left hand-in-hand with a renewed outlook on life and their practice, and gratitude that had been missing in their lives. The spirit on the Reservation is palpable. It seems to know what everybody needs, much like entering a sweat lodge. The couple is still together today! Another couple couldn’t conceive and had done everything in their power to do so. The miracle of life happened on the Fort Peck Reservation in 100-degree temperatures, with a broken air conditioner in the hotel. Love Has No Color is a central humanitarian theme in TNR. It keeps a sense of purpose and meaning year after year. Being in the position to do things that matter is a feeling that few experience in their lives. Many people get swept up in excessive consumption and materialism, and the humanitarian dimension dissolves.
From the Mind of Miyagi
Do you notice in yourself the resistance to training or performing acts that challenge you as an adult? As a kid, you would imagine and pretend-play, and you didn’t care how you looked. You could do anything! Think of riding a bike. Most had to fall to learn to ride well. How about dirt bikes and motorcycles? The later you start something, the more difficult it is, for the most part, because of this invisible resistance. Where does this invisible resistance to beneficial things in your life come from? I have dedicated my life to answering this question with people in dire straits and with doctors who have not reached their potential.
AOR (acute onset retardation) is alive and well in all of our lives. It’s known by different names: red tape, bureaucracy, laws, can’t fight city hall, insurance regulations, that’s impossible, it can’t be done, what is considered conventional, customs, mores, etc. Do you remember when you chose not to wear a mask when the covid farce was in full force? All kinds of comrades would mouth off to strangers, telling them to put their masks on. Having unpaid advocates is the goal of all governments. The puppets are so obedient you can almost see the strings. The first people targeted during revolutions or coups are intelligent people, artists, and independent thinkers.
When I was a kid, I started playing hockey later than most kids. Many of the kids had 3, 4, or even 5 years of experience on me. As if stickhandling, shooting, and passing were not difficult enough, you had to skate, or you were a bust. I couldn’t skate a lick for years. A female power skating coach (Christy and Derrick were also taught by her) presented me with a novel idea: you have to learn to skate backward to help you skate forward. I told her I had read her book, and she laughed and said, now we must put the principles to work. Reading the book is helpful; now you have to do the work. The concept was so counterintuitive for my then small-minded self. I told her that I hated skating backward and, besides, forwards only skate forward. She laughed and said that’s what everyone says. She suggested that I do it for a while and see if it produced results. She looked me in the eye and asked if I was afraid of falling, or if I wasn’t good at it and worried about what everyone would think of me looking so awkward. Thank you, Laura Stamm, a power skating extraordinaire.
The same circuitry in the brain from back then is still there. Resistance is the one thing everyone can count on when embarking on the hero’s journey. Anytime we journey into the unknown, this comes up with or without our recognition or permission. We have to override it when it shows up. Some of the most unlikely doctors and practice members continue to amaze me with how they dig in to produce results. They call on dormant or hidden talents that completely transform them. How people present to you in the beginning has no effect on how they will be when they graduate or spend some time and care with you. You are learning something in TNR that people pay large sums of money for; many only talk about it, don’t produce results, classify, diagnose, and make excuses. You will see example after example of this at the training.
Miracle Training
How many times have you heard, “They’re too far gone”? It’s an admission that the person chirping is wiser and more intelligent than the creator. They are pitting their man-made pea brain against the universal mind/consciousness and betting it’s more powerful. Remember, this spirit/mind/intelligence made all of us, repairs us daily, keeps the planets in place, and knows more than the entire population combined. This is like a drop of ocean claiming it’s the entire ocean or a shaft of light convincing you it’s the sun. It simply amazes me how low the threshold is for quitting with many people, even when life and death are on the table.
Recently, I was made aware of a circumstance where a mother with severe emotional and mental impairment is out of control, and something has to be done. As bad as this is for the woman and her spouse, a little girl will pay the price of not having a feminine guide in her life to help shape her. She will grow up and somehow carry on, but don’t you see, we have failed her (the individual) at the collective level. We have bigger fish to fry: politics, economics, entertainment, etc. I sit here with tears as I will not be asked to help because of the impossibility, logistics, she’s too far gone, expense, and closed-mindedness. I am going to read something for the first time at this weekend’s training about what keeps my internal fire blazing and always at thermal levels. We tolerate wars, human trafficking, crime, drugs, and everything else. This is the price we pay for not understanding health. Everyone knows about pain relief and disease but not emotional, mental, and physical health. Never forget what a sacred privilege it is to give people a second chance at life. Like skating backward, you don’t have to do it, and you can get by without seeing people in dire straits. If not us, who?
We refurbished a shack on the Reservation, inside and out, at Kenny Smoker's request. Most of us who live off the Reservation would likely say the solution would have been a can of gas and a match. The refurbishing will mean more to the man who lives there. It took 14 people four hours to complete. We will never meet the guy, and he will never meet us. Everyone who participated gets to carry this in their hearts for the rest of their lives. Miracles don’t need to be witnessed. They are complete in and of themselves. They don’t need to be filmed, bragged about, or on social media; they just are. The act of kindness and love sends reverberations throughout the Reservation and beyond.
