Are you the problem?

As we have famously stated to DCs: you have to stand up for yourself when it comes to patients or they will mistake your friendliness for weakness. Negotiating, convincing, or caving may have their place in some offices but not all. When you put down the people pleasing personality your patients will respond in a positive way.

How many times have you noticed that some new patients when they come in are “breathing fire”, complaining, are demanding, and not fun to be with?

Far too many DCs reach for their first defense which is to be nice, understanding (maybe too understanding!)  and let patients walk all over you.

If you don’t cave, lower fees, or change your recommendations; have you ever noticed how some of those “fire-breathing” patients turn into wonderful long-term practice members and love to refer?

On the other hand, if you do cave…sure they’ll come in for temporary pain relief. Unfortunately, they will never get to experience the full benefits of Chiropractic care because of the brevity in your office.

How many times are you going to hear it from your spouse to stand up to your patients! Stop allowing the inmates to run the asylum.

You know you’re spending too much time with patients when your kids and spouse aren’t getting that type of time on their adjustments.

You are not missing clinical skills; it’s your communication skills that need to be developed.

In order to practice the way you choose, you can’t be a part of the problem. You have to change your focus to be a part of the solution and stop doing what everyone else is.

If it’s the right time for you to break out from the outdated adult pain relief care and into a way of practice that’s more fulfilling and economically satisfying (like kids, difficult cases, wellness care) then we need to talk.
